A Flavorful Farewell in Wetteren, Belgium.

Some restaurants are more than just a place to eat. They become chapters in your story – memories woven through courses and flavors. Meneer Gustaaf in Wetteren was exactly that for us.

Over the past few years, we found ourselves at one of their tables more than once. Not just because we know the chef, but because it was an experience every single time. Chef Angelo didn’t serve a fixed menu – he delivered seasonal surprises, beautifully plated with character, elegance, and always that little extra touch that made us pause.

Not traditional, but always inspired

What made Meneer Gustaaf stand out?Not your classic Flemish fare, but refined dishes full of finesse. Every detail was thoughtful – from what was on the plate to the atmosphere at the table. It was the kind of place where you ate slowly, in awe, and every now and then said, "You have to try this too."Chef Angelo skillfully blended flavors from different cultures into each dish.

April 27, 2025 marked the final night at Meneer Gustaaf – and of course, we couldn’t let that pass us by. It was a night to treasure. A beautiful close to a culinary story.

Our favorites from the evening?

  • Yenko’s pick: the Tiramisu Gustaaf – so good, he shamelessly asked for a second serving. 🙈

  • Larissa’s pick: mackerel with cauliflower and wasabi – cauliflower and Larissa? Always a match made in heaven.

A new chapter ahead

Luckily, this story isn’t really ending. Chef Angelo is opening a new chapter soon with Bar Última in Waasmunster. A new adventure, a fresh vibe, but no doubt with the same passion and refinement we’ve come to admire.

You’ll definitely find us there – whether for a full meal or a tapas board shared with friends.

Thank you, Meneer Gustaaf, for every flavorful moment, every warm welcome, and every surprise on the plate. What an honor to have been part of your story.

Until soon – at a different table, with the same appetite for more.
