Architecture, art & dumplings.
Sometimes all you need is one well-packed day, a bit of sunshine, and a city full of surprises.
Our day trip to Rotterdam, straight by bus from Sint-Niklaas, turned into a colorful mix of contrasts, creativity, and street food vibes.
No hotel, no suitcases. Just good vibes, a camera in hand, and a craving for adventure.

Blown Away at Remastered
We kicked off our day with a visit to Remastered, and wow, what. an. experience!
This isn’t your typical museum. It’s an immersive audiovisual journey where you don’t just look at art, you walk through it, float in it, disappear into it. Think: moving projections that swirl around you, light shows on walls, ceilings, and even beneath your feet.
Need a break from the outside world? This is your place. Perfect for anyone who loves a touch of the surreal and a whole lot of visual wow.
City Stroll Past Iconic Spots
After visiting Remastered, we headed into the heart of the city. Rotterdam breathes modern architecture, and it shows from the very first steps.
We walked past the iconic Cube Houses, always fun to wander through and gaze upward (or get a little dizzy, depending on your angle 😅).
We also crossed the Erasmus Bridge, gracefully stretching over the Maas and adding instant character to the skyline.
Our stroll through the center was short, but full of atmosphere: open, breezy, lively. A city that gives you space to breathe.
Quick Lunch at the Markthal
No visit to Rotterdam is complete without a stop at the Markthal. This foodie haven is not just an architectural gem, it’s a paradise for curious tastebuds and hungry wanderers.
We went for a finger food-style lunch, picking up little bites from different stalls. Dumplings for me (highly recommended!), and other tasty snacks for the rest of the crew.
Perfect for a quick pause before heading back into the city buzz.
Practical & perfect for a day trip
We visited Rotterdam as part of a school outing for Larissa’s full-time job (yep, she does more than just Savory Roads 😉).
It meant an early start, but so worth it.
The bus left Sint-Niklaas at 7:00 AM, easy, relaxed, no parking stress, and all your energy saved for the city itself.
Rotterdam is big enough to wow you, but compact enough to explore and taste a whole lot in just one day.
Our final take?
Rotterdam surprised us.The city blends bold architecture with soft details, clean lines with playful hotspots, and gives you just what you need for a day full of contrast and discovery.
From digital art to crispy dumplings, we headed home with full bellies and even fuller camera rolls.
See you soon, Rotterdam, for another chapter, hopefully with a little more time (and maybe a hotel stay 😉).
